The Joy of Being A Grandmother

Chy Chy, my Little Mama (Baby Girl Ava), and the Professor, JT. My heart leaps for joy as I watch them grow up. Scripture tells us in Proverbs 17:6, NLT, that grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged; parents are the pride of their children. I must admit that being a grandma (Mema) is among the highlights of my life. And I would encourage us to rejoice and find comfort in the memories we create with them.

Chy Chy, JT, and Little Mama bring such delight to our family. Chy was not quite one when we first met; however, we quickly developed a bond and spent countless hours together. She was my first student when I opened my Family Day Care Home. I met JT when he was three, and Ava was the same age as her older sister. She gazed at me as if asking, "Who are you?, because we were strangers. Still, spending time with her the next day helped us build an inseparable bond. Taking her to the park was among my fondest memories with her.

Chy, my first granddaughter, is incredibly gifted and has a super generous heart. She excels in both drawing and writing. Though she is an adult, I can’t believe I have a grown grandchild. She truly honors her father and mother like the Bible instructs in Ephesians 6:2, AMP, and she has never caused her parents any grief. She embodies what it means to honor and respect your parents.

JT, or as I prefer to call him, Professor, is taller than both his mother and me. At an early age, he figured out how to use his toys to climb out of his playpen. Likewise, he is skilled at Minecraft, where he builds ships and enjoys researching history. Like his mother, he is a gifted artist. He has also been blessed with a photographic memory. His mother and I wouldn’t be surprised if he becomes an architect. I am so proud that he was honored with a reward in marketing and media.

Ava excels in math, enjoys reading, and solving puzzles with 250 or more pieces. Playing soccer with her brother, JT, is also something Ava enjoys. She was recognized for her achievements in all her classes and is likewise a member of a national honor society. And add Bambi to the mix, and we are family!

Dear One, most importantly, I treasure every teachable moment I can share with them. And guess what, their mom, my daughter, does not object. (Proverbs 22:6). These are not only memories but a legacy I am passing down from my Big Mama to the next generation. May these precious moments bring you as much joy as they do me. What are your favorite times with your grandchildren? What legacy are you passing on to them?

May the song "Family" by Toby Mac stir your heart to believe in your family and exemplify how to serve in the Kingdom of God.

TIME FOR REFLECTION: What legacies are you passing down to the next generation? Let's talk about it in the comments below. Then, hit that heart and share this message.

Vernita...

You're truly blessed with beautiful grandchildren. I have 16 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.

Yout grandchildren are also truly blessed with a beautiful, God fearing grandmother. You have a beautiful heart, and soul. I also believe you're an earth angel, that I'm blessed to call you my friend, and sister.

Unfortunately it's been some years since I've seen some, and a few I've never have had the pleasure of meeting at all.

God loves you and I, and I love you also.

Hugs...
