Do nothing from rivalry or conceit but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. (Philippians 2:3, ESV)
Being a leader is a tremendous responsibility. And one pertinent element is leading with character. Having the knowledge and skills to lead is nothing without character to back it up. (Hebrews 13:7). What good is it to know all the answers but fail to communicate effectively? What good is it to have the power to command orders but do so in a demeaning and disrespectful way? So, great leaders recognize and know how to bring out the best in anyone even when that person knows more than them. It is what great leadership is all about. Likewise, it shows you can handle anything with grace and dignity.
Besides, leaders are not the only ones who have the answers. When you recognize someone who knows more than you but remains humble and; still does their best job, that calls for much grace. It shows this person you can rely on to go the extra mile without; the need for applause. They are already advanced in their skills and can handle difficult situations with poise and the utmost respect. So, listening to the team's ideas and input and using their knowledge; while giving them full credit for such shows the power of an incredible leader. Even when a leader sees that potential to lead in others and bring it out, it builds morale and showcases someone else's capabilities. (Proverbs 4:23).
So, when a leader sees someone's executive leadership skills, allow them to shine. You do not have to feel threatened by their abilities, but you can help make them into the leader you know they are. Their service can be of great value to the company. Likewise, it can aid you by trusting them with a bit more responsibility. Genuine leaders are not overbearing but know how to take charge by using the gifts everyone brings to the table. The outcome is it creates a business that thrives and shows you have the most admiration for others.
