I Look to the Hills where My Help Comes

ree

Psalms 94:19 (AMP) declares, When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy. You feel that great pain of despair that will not relent. What was once joy and contentment has turned into sorrow and grief. However, this scripture assures us that when troubles overwhelm us, God is bigger than our anxieties. Even praying and journaling can ease our minds. Dear One, we do not have to fear because He invites us to thrust our cares, worries, and anxieties on Him. (1 Peter 5:7).

In these uncertain times, you may struggle to overcome the challenges. The mental strain it puts on some is like nothing they have ever faced. When it seems they fix one problem, two more emerge. Those you could once count on cannot help you because they, too, are looking for a way out. Where will your help come from? Have you ever been to a place surrounded by mountains, and as you traveled, you could see out into the horizon? Like the Israelites who journeyed, as they walked up the hill, they could envision God, their Creator of heaven and earth, high and lifted.

Psalms 121:2-3 assures us that we can look to the hills from where our help comes. In ancient biblical times, the city of Jerusalem, the center of Jewish worship, was situated on a hill. On their way there, they often sang Songs of Ascent as they climbed uphill. They affirmed their faith and reliance upon the sovereign Lord as they sang, “I lift my eyes to the hills.” His presence brought them a sense of peace as they realized He was their sole source of provision.

Dear One, we all struggle at one time or another, so let this be your song of praise and worship, because the Lord is where your help comes. He is high above all your troubles. Others may look to their finances. Some even trust in the government and social programs, but those of us whose reliance is on the Lord look to Him for His mercy and grace. In due season, we will reap a mighty harvest if we do not become discouraged and give up. God can keep us through every disappointment, challenge, hardship, and even our fears during our darkest seasons. God is bigger than any of these, and He's got you!

TIME FOR REFLECTION: What place of reference keeps your focus during troublesome times? How is your experience similar or dissimilar to the Israelites?
