O Lord my God, if I have done this, If there is injustice in my hands, 4 If I have done evil to him who was at peace with me, Or without cause robbed him who was my enemy, 5 Let the enemy pursue me and overtake me; And let him trample my life to the ground And lay my honor in the dust. Selah. (Psalms 7:3-5, AMP)
In this Psalms, King David teaches us to be accountable for our actions. Likewise, to be willing to suffer the consequences of those actions. It is not about those who did him wrong but those he offended without a cause. When he and someone are living at peace, and the actions of David create discord, he asks the Lord not to allow him to get away with it. And even when his enemy has not done anything to him, and he does so to his enemy, David wants to be held liable. It is not that his enemy likes David, but he is not doing anything to harm him, yet David does an injustice to him. Still, he wants the Lord to give vengeance to those he afflicted without cause. How many of us are strong enough to take responsibility for what we contributed to the situation?
King David taught us how critical it is to do the right thing when we cause the results of our actions. Granted, we do reap what we sow. If we do good, good comes back to us. If we sin and do wrong, bad things happen to us. Still, with such a grieved heart, God allows His mercy so you do not get what you deserve. So, what lessons can we learn from these words of David?
The Bible tells us the Word of God is powerful, alive, and perfect. It is pure, quick, and sharper than a two-edged sword. When we accept and use it, lives are transformed and will never be the same. (Hebrews 4:12,Proverbs 30:5-6;Psalms 19:7-14).
