Living A Healthy and Vibrant Life as I Age

As we age, God desires for us to live healthy and vibrant lives. One of my daily prayers is my confession that I am stronger today than I was yesterday. And I am healthier today than I was yesterday. These are not mere words etched in my mind, but a proclamation of my unwavering faith in God. As I age, I am more determined to make my health a priority.
As many seniors face the reality of aging, some believe that getting older means their health declines. I hear this too often from many seniors. Dear One, I do not accept this outlook, nor do I make such a declaration. 2 Corinthians 4:16 reminds us that though outwardly it may seem like we are falling apart, on the inside, God renews our spirits every day. Staying healthy is as important to me as it is to Him. Even when you read about Noah, Abraham, Moses, and others, they lived long, thriving lives. (Genesis 9:28-29; 25:7-8; Deuteronomy 34:7, NLT). God wants the same for us.
So instead of dreading getting older, I choose to embrace it because we can pass on wisdom to the next generation, share our experiences to teach and help them navigate their path, and gain a deeper understanding of the next level God wants to take us. When we recall God’s Word, we recognize God’s love covers us, His power strengthens us, and He guides us to better health every day. Dear One, encourage yourself in God’s Word and appreciate the blessing of aging. It is a gift and not a curse.

Our lives are not over and not less valuable because God promises to sustain and carry us. (Isaiah 46:4). Focus on staying healthy, eating nutritious meals, and doing light exercise. I enjoy going to the park and walking the path while praying with my flags. Before I leave, I walk up the bleachers, 30 steps, then walk down gracefully. And I add some stretches throughout the week.
Even your attitude can make a difference. So, replace complaining with praise, worship rather than worry—and walk by faith without letting fear consume you despite your feelings or the challenges you face. Instead of envisioning yourself living out the rest of your life with physical limitations, declining health, and all alone, remember your wisdom can empower your family and communities. We are here for a purpose, for such a time as this, to leave behind a residue of God’s love everywhere we go. To fulfill this calling, we need a healthy body, mind, and spirit. (Job 12:12)
I pray the song, I Am Healed by River Valley Worship, stirs your heart and remind you of the supernatural healing power of God.
