God, Help Me Get Through the Storm

Nobody likes storms; however, storms are inevitable. Ready or not, they are coming. In Florida, the weather patterns are something to behold between mid-May and November 30th. The hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30, but we may not experience one. However, before this, there is a rainy season. While it does not rain every day, it can shift from sunny to heavy rain within an instant. Even with an umbrella, there have been times when I found myself drenched. Then, we have the dry season, which calls for extra precautions when hosting a cookout.

Like natural weather, our lives have storms that can be just as unpredictable as a natural storm. One moment, life is everything you wanted and more than you expected. Then, with no warning, circumstances change and leave you confused and unsure of what will come next. Some storms we bring on ourselves, like when we make unwise decisions. Some God allows, such as the storm at Galilee. (Matthew 8:23-27). Then again, some people could cause them, such as when Pharaoh put Joseph into prison for a crime he did not commit. (Genesis 39:6-23).

Regardless of the cause of your storm, faith in God is not asking God to stop the storm. It is trusting Him to get you through the storm. He never promises life without troubles, but He did say in Psalms 91:16 that He will be with us during troublesome times. The Lord inclines His ear to our cries, so our cry for help reaches His ears. Beloved, He will come and rescue us. (Psalms 34:15; 116:2).

Whatever your storm is, the power of God is greater than it. When it seems that the winds are unrelenting, while the waves cover you in despair, you may feel as if your hope is gone. Dear One, do not become impatient and make matters worse. Be of good cheer, your situation is doomed, but you shall survive because you are more than a conqueror. The same God who saved Paul and the rest who were caught in a fierce storm will rescue you, too. (Acts 27:14-27). Dear One, do not let that storm stress you out. Instead, tell your storm, be still, and know that God is in control. Do not wait until the tempest stops because your faith in the Lord will take you through it. Give God thanks and act like the victor that you already are.
