On June 19, 202, Phillips, Craig & Dean released the astounding song, There Is A God from their album, You’re Still God. The beginning verse asks these questions.
If there is a God
Who holds the whole world in His hand
Then where were You
When mine came crashing down?
If there is a God
Who tells the sun and the stars where to shine
Then where were You
When all the lights went out?
These are questions from a heart
Desperate to know just where You are
Right now I can't see You
But I'm choosing to believe
These past three and a half years have left many wondering this profound question. It has been harder than ever for many to cope, and things are not getting better. In a world filled with violence, anger, wars, and turmoil, where is the evidence of God? Many express how they feel in angry ways. Still, as you listen to this song, they give us the most astounding answer that brings hope out of the darkness. Though you cannot see Him among the chaos, you must choose to believe. He is a God who has never left you, and while you are hurting, He is still with you. When you only see one set of footprints, it is because the Lord is carrying you.
I dare not pretend to know what you are going through, but I know that God sees your sorrow and has been through what you are going through. He is not out of touch with your pain but is an ever-present help in times of trouble. (Psalms 46:1, AMP). The Lord is I Am that I Am, and God does have a plan. So, on this Thanksgiving Day, as you gather with family and friends, and to those who spend this day alone, let me remind you that He is working all things for your good, though slower than you think He should. (Romans 8:28). And His ways are higher than yours and His thoughts than yours. (Isaiah 55:8-9).
Still, the Lord will not allow you to walk through your valley alone because He is with you, and you need not fear or be dismayed. (Psalms 23:4) He shows up in the most unlikely ways. It could be through a word of encouragement. Likewise, it might be through an unexpected visit from somebody. It might be this song and devotional to strengthen you. The Almighty works when you do not see how. Though this is an unusual message for this holiday, the ending reminds you there will be pain, and there is hurt, but He is the hope I am standing on. There is a God. Have a blessed and grateful Thanksgiving and give God thanks in all seasons, regardless of what you encounter. Likewise, I pray this song stirs your heart as much as mine.
Though it is unrealistic to expect a life without difficulties, many people blame God for the pain and suffering going on in this world. How would you encourage somebody to believe there is a God who cares despite what is going on in the world? What scriptures can you give them for encouragement? Please leave your comment, hit that heart, and share.
