Faith Builds Stronger When Nothing Makes Sense

Those times in my life when nothing made sense, I knew God was up to something unusual. Once upon a time, I had a great job as a Substitute Teacher. Suddenly, my situation shifted from a preferred sub to an extended season of unemployment. Dear One, the strongest faith is built in the moments when nothing makes sense, but you keep believing anyway. What else could I do? Complain? Lose hope? Blame God?

Some challenges can cause you to lose focus and question your faith in God. However, that is not the time to buckle under fear, but to trust in the power of God to strengthen you to stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. King Jehoshaphat took this course of action when the Moabites, Ammonites, and the Meunites came to make war against him. They intended to drive Israel from the land God allowed them to possess. Instead of being overwhelmed with despair, Jehoshaphat turned to the Lord for divine direction. They were powerless against this massive army, but the king knew there was nothing impossible for the Lord. (2 Chronicles 1:1-19)

What do you do when the report or threats of the enemy are greater than your resources? Do you panic and become fainthearted? Do you feel hopeless and fall into despair? Or do you trust the Lord no matter what and leave the outcome in His hands? Israel rose early the next morning, and their king gave them a message that strengthened their resolve: His words still echo to us today:

Believe and trust in the Lord your God, and you will be established (secure). Believe and trust in His prophets and succeed. Following that, they offered songs of praise unto the Lord as they advanced toward their enemies.

That massive army turned on each other, and ding-dong, they wiped one another out. Judah did not have to fight in that battle because the battle belonged to God. (2 Chronicles 20:20-25).

What God did for His people, He still does for us, too. How do I know that? Dear One, when your faith is stretched to four years of unemployment and almost three years of no income, these empowering stories become your source of strength. Those vicious actions, orchestrated by the Head of Human Resources and the Acting Superintendent of School, failed to achieve their intended purpose.

God used it to take what the enemy meant for evil and crown me with beauty for ashes. A servant of God who uses the Word of God that travels the globe and transforms lives! Nobody can thwart God's purpose, not even high-ranking officials!

May this song: Just Hold On by Josh Wright and Vernita's resilience, stir your heart to trust in the Lord during every season of life.

TIME FOR REFLECTION: In what ways can we outwardly reflect unwavering faith in God?
