Day 21 - Proverbs Chapter 21

Updated: Jan 5, 2021

I appreciate how Solomon uses short, insightful advice to help us grasp the value of existence. Regardless of one’s age, everyone can gain knowledge to preserve their life and use it to honor God. These truths enable anyone to stand the test of time while avoiding pitfalls along the way. Let’s feast on the highlights that captured my attention.

Those hasty in making plans will learn the brutal consequences of thinking before they act. (V5).

Those hasty in making plans will learn the brutal consequences of thinking before they act. (Vs 7, 15).

The quarrelsome woman achieves humility and respect when she learns to guard what comes from her mouth. Otherwise, her anger drives her family away while filling the home with sorrow and pain (Vs 9, 19).

Whoever refuses an excellent offer of work because it doesn’t meet their selfish demand will forever live beneath their exceptional potential. (Vs 25).

Even the leader’s heart is in the hands of the Lord. Whether their performance is good or awful, God is Sovereign and is in control of everything that happens in the universe. When any President allows Him to direct his spirit to carry out God’s plan and purpose, the nation flourishes. The Almighty can by his divine will do this as he pleases. He won’t force someone in a direction that has them go against their will. He holds everyone morally culpable for their actions.

Like the kings of Israel who did evil in the sight of the Lord, unregrettable consequences will follow. Their rebellion resulted in the Israelites taken in Babylon captivity for 70 years. Under the righteous rulers, blessings abounded. Not that there won’t be any despair in the land. Evil is inherent in everyone and shall raise its ugly head. It will not prevail against goodness and mercy. (Psalms 23:7). When they violate God’s instructions, we are to pray. (1 Timothy 2:1-2). We need not lose hope because God knows what will come to pass and allows who, He wills to be in leadership.

The Lord always directs the King’s heart to do what is honorable and to bless his people. But not every Commander-in-Chief abides by these principles. As water suffices to sustain life, any leader’s willingness to honor and obey Him sees good days, an abundance of grace, and share in the extravagant blessings of God.
