Brighten This Place Up

Dear One, as you begin your day, how about being the one who brightens that place up? Have you ever met a person whose presence changes the atmosphere, and they are a ray of sunshine? Their demeanor is so pleasant, and when they show up, they make everybody feel better, spreading outrageously contagious joy.

They put a smile on your faces through their actions and words. They even lend a helping hand without being asked. The Bible teaches us in Philippians 2:4, AMP not to think only of our own personal interests, but also the interests of others. Embracing this principle cultivates healthy relationships and demonstrates genuine love.

Dear One, if your boss is challenging, lift them by encouraging them. A nice compliment makes everybody feel better. The workplace can be stressful, but you need your job. Offering a helping hand can improve that situation. Even going the extra mile can warm hearts and lift burdens. (Matthew 5:41).

Maybe you have a shy student, and others tease her. Encourage her, and let her know how valuable she is. Create a nurturing environment where kindness and respect thrive, while guiding those who are unkind toward more positive actions. John 13:34 teaches us to love one another, while Romans 13:10 reminds us that love does not harm others.

Luke 6:31 encourages us to do to others as you would have them do to you. It does not say to give them what you feel they deserve. Besides, we are light-bearers who will let our light shine so people see our good works and God gets all the glory. (Matthew 5:16).

A good support system is like a refreshing, cool drink on a super hot day. Jesus said that He did not come to be served, but to serve. (Mark 10:45). Christ even washed the feet of the disciples. While I am not asking you to do that, helping someone during hard times will lift them out of despair. Just having an ear to listen without judging and condemning someone will bring them great comfort.

Dear One, you can not foresee what will happen today; however, be a source who goes and infests that place with the light of God’s love. Whether it is through an act of kindness, checking on your neighbor, or de-escalating tension, your enthusiasm is just what others may need. Everywhere Jesus went, He left behind a residue of His love, and you can do so too. Now, go and brighten up that place!

I pray the song No Higher Calling by Morris Chapman stirs your heart to serve as Jesus served.

Jesus did not come to be served but to serve, and we should do so, too.
