And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness. (Genesis 15:2, ESV)
God keeps His promises no matter what you are going through, and, He guarantees His best outcome, even when everything appears hopeless. He made a covenant with Abraham and promised to bless him and Sarah with a child. Both were well advanced in age and found this utterly ridiculous. Likewise, He would make him the father of many nations and through him, all nations would be blessed. He was seventy-five at the time of this profound revelation. (Genesis 12:1-4; 17:9-21; 8:18). Still, it took twenty-five years to see this Word fulfilled, during which they faced many challenges.
While traveling from Bethel moving toward Negeb, a famine in the land caused him to take his family to Egypt. There he misleads Pharaoh, and the Lord afflicts the entire house of the king. He, therefore, commands Abram to leave. In time, he and Lot go separate ways, and later, he has to rescue Lot. Let’s not forget about the conflict between Hagar and Sarai. Despite this and many other circumstances, when all looked hopeless, Abraham never stopped believing. (Genesis 12:10-20; 13:1-17;14:1-16; 16:1-15).
What do you do when you have remained faithful to God but see no evidence of your promising future coming to pass? Even your attempt to make it come to pass sends you backward and not closer to things turning in your favor. Beloved, believing does not come without fierce opposition. The fact that the Lord favors you cause the enemy to fight against you. Like Abraham, when you hold on to His Word regardless of difficulties, the Lord will give you victory because of your faithfulness. So, when all looks impossible, believe anyway because God will do more than you asked.
Father, I will believe though I do not understand Your plan.
I pray that the song, Faithful Now by Vertical Worship stirs your heart and faith in God.
