Among my prayer request to God is to bring people in my life who’ll hold me accountable for my actions. And I am blessed that He answered this through some extraordinary people. The Lord allows us to meet them for a reason. And such occurrences can grow into an incredible relationship. In time this person may have to tell you the truth though you don’t want to hear it. “But speaking the truth in love [in all things—both our speech and our lives expressing His truth], let us grow up in all things into Him [following His example] who is the Head—Christ. (Ephesians 4:15, AMP). But I have the utmost respect for those who have done so to me.
I recall some years ago when I was engaged to this man who enjoyed controlling women. Though I had already called off the wedding; one faithful friend had the boldness to warn me not to marry him. And I respect her because her intentions were noble. Family and friends would have attended the wedding, brought precious gifts, though many opposed it. Sis. Lorraine Edmonds walked me through the healing process. And today I rejoice for how Christ delivered me. Therefore, treasure people who care about you enough, to be honest, and express the truth in love. A real relationship isn’t solely when we agree, but the test of a genuine association is you can disagree respectfully. It’s the courage to tell the truth when it could cost you to lose that connection. Besides, if you like people merely because they support you though you are wrong; you have no clue what a real relationship is.
Everyone needs someone who’s not loyal to a fault. We all require a person who won’t do anything to gain our acceptance. There must be somebody brave and wise that compels us to choose truth over error and take responsibility for our choices. Such a person will remain faithful and will be there even when you have to face the consequences of your actions. And they minister this in grace, dignity and style. Who wouldn’t want such a person in their life? They bring a sense of balance and serenity to a tough situation. It’s their differences that make them unique and a gift from God.
