There are things in life which we found offensive and disturbing. But our reactions determine how it affects us. People will do something that makes you angry. It could be someone you know or a stranger. Their actions could be reprehensible. You are mad and believe someone should punish them. Beloved, no matter the offense, you must control your anger. And getting angry is normal, but it should never result in vengeance, resentment, and bitterness.
Even the Bible warns us of the consequences of smoldering in anger: “Be angry [at sin—at immorality, at injustice, at ungodly behavior], yet do not sin; do not let your anger [cause you shame, nor allow it to] last until the sun goes down. 27 And do not give the devil an opportunity [to lead you into sin by holding a grudge, or nurturing anger, or harboring resentment, or cultivating bitterness].” (Ephesians 4:26-27, AMP).
Anger won’t solve the problem. Nor does it build and strengthen a relationship. It is a ticking time bomb waiting to explode and destroy all in its path. And it fills the world with angry people. But they don’t get help. Instead, they take matters into their hand, and make it worse. They allow their rage to cause them to get even. Some believe it will take their pain away. But it doesn’t. It leaves them feeling guilty and ashamed. There’s a void and emptiness they can’t shake off. Therefore, they go around the revolving door of despair. Some even feel worse, and the anger takes them through a dark tunnel; which leads to a broken life. It destroys relationships. And it alienates you from those who love you.
Beloved, the antidote to overcome anger is forgiveness. And this is a problem you can’t handle on your own. The fact that it’s controlling your life in such a negative way is proof of that. The anger has shattered your emotions, and it’s time you talk about how you feel. Though it’s difficult to forgive and move on, it’s necessary for healing. So, no longer linger in this state of defeat. Help is available you need only reach out and grab it.
