There comes a time when you have to exit your current situation and move forward. I know this sounds ridiculous. You’re up against an unmovable mountain. You are facing insurmountable odds. You feel stuck! Well, Beloved, you have much in common with the children of Israelite's. They were up against the impossible, but God delivered them and made a way out of no way. He will do the same for you too. So, go forward even when it doesn’t seem sensible.
After Pharoah let the children of Israel go, he realized what he had done and decided to go and overtake them. As the children of Israel were camping by the Red Sea, there was nowhere to go. So, when Pharoah drew close, they were afraid and cried out. (Exodus 14:10). A ruthless army bent on their destruction were pursuing them. With an enormous sea before them and the Egyptians behind them, they became overwhelmed with fear. Thus, they looked to their leader, Moses for the answer. Moses trusted in God.
Then Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid! Take your stand [be firm and confident and undismayed] and see the salvation of the LORD which He will accomplish for you today; for those Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see again. 14 The LORD will fight for you while you [only need to] keep silent and remain calm.” (Exodus 14:13-14). Then God gave Moses an unusual command: 15 The LORD said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the sons of Israel to move forward [toward the sea]. 16As for you, lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, so that the sons of Israel may go through the middle of the sea on dry land.” (Exodus 14:15-16). God told him to have the people to go forward. And God proceeds and created a path through the Red Sea. They walked through the middle of the sea as if it was dry land. So, Dear One, He did this miracle for His chosen, the Israelites. What makes you think He won’t do it for you? He is God, the same today, yesterday, and forever. You are His chosen too. Thus, He will do it again. Just keep moving forward. Here are three reasons to do so.
1.The past Is Over
There comes a time when you have to exit the past to move onward into the future. When your back is against the wall, and you can’t see any way out, go forward. Perhaps, you’re in your comfort zone. Though it’s not the best situation, it’s better than an unforeseeable future. Such a thought scars you because you don’t know what the future may hold. You ask yourself; What if it doesn’t work out? Besides, nothing works in my favor anyhow. And what you have now isn’t the best, but it’s better than taking a chance on what could most likely turn out bad. So, you think! But to advance forward requires leaving the past behind. This takes courage and faith in God. This takes refusing to accept the negative thoughts and believe the promises of God. Beloved, you are not defined by your past. In a word, your past can’t hold you back unless you allow it to. Thus, believe God has something greater in your future.
2. I Can’t Go Back
As the Israelites journey to the promised land, they grumbled and complained. The obstacles and insurmountable odds keep their minds going back to what they left behind. At one point, they grew so weary and longed for the fine food they ate while they were in Egypt. “We remember the fish we ate freely and without cost in Egypt, the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic.” They said. (Numbers 11;5). They wanted to go back, but Moses knew better than they. He knew they couldn’t go back no matter how long it took or what their present conditions were.
Sometimes, to receive something better in your future, you have to make a sacrifice. It may look senseless to even you. Some people will criticize you. Some will say you are foolish. But just because what you had looked better than what you could have in the future doesn’t mean you should go back to a life filled with pain and misery. While in Egypt, Pharoah placed slave drivers over the Israelites and oppressed them with hard labor. 14 They made their lives bitter with hard labor in a mortar, brick, and all kinds of field work. All their labor was harsh and severe. (Exodus 1:14, 1-13). They built Pithom and Raamses as storage cities for Pharaoh. He even gives the command for the midwives to kill any male babies that were born to the Israelites. But the midwives didn’t comply. (Note v. 15-17). Moses had no choice than to move forward. He couldn’t allow them to go back to Egypt.
You’ll have to go through a desert experience to obtain the promises of God. Despite how grueling it will be you can’t go back. No matter how steep the mountain is, you must keep climbing until you reach the top. So, the training is intense and brutal, but you can’t give up and quit. The only way to contain the prize is to keep moving forward. (Philippians 3:14). Like the Israelites, when pursued by an army out to eradicate them, God says to move forward. Yes, the Red Sea is before you, and there is no way out, go forward. And everything you own is with you. You can’t even dive into the sea, or you’ll drown. You have but one option, keep moving forward, toward the sea then stand still and see God will work a miracle that will take you to the promise land.
3. Possess the Blessing
Here you are at where a great sea is before you, and there’s nowhere to go. God says to continue going toward the sea. What does He expect you to do? Beloved, when all odds are against you, trust in God and leave the outcome to Him. It’s not in the easy times we see the miraculous hand of God move. It is in the hard times, times when all looks impossible that God does what makes absolutely no sense to the human mind. In such times, your next move reveals who you place your faith in. Your next move determines the outcome of your future.
The Israelites had seen God perform miracles time after time. (Exodus chapters 6-14, 15:22-27). But they lacked unshakable faith in God. The primary reason for this was because they allowed their emotions to govern them. Also, they expected their circumstances to change to their liking. Thus, they become weary, grumbled, and complained. When such factors rule one’s heart, it makes their problem seem bigger than God. We see this numerous time throughout the forty years it took them to possess the blessing. But once they overcame fear, doubt, discouragement, and disobedience they were able to take what belonged to them.
It was when they obeyed and trusted God that He parted the Red Sea and they crossed it successfully without losing a soul. Beloved, the blessings already belong to you. Now, that you have left your past behind, and you aren’t going back, you can now receive the extraordinary blessings God has for you in your future. Move forward. Your future is full of more than you thought you could ever have. This includes hope, being transformed into who God created you to be, victory, and prosperity in every area of your life. The past you came from can't compare with where you are going.
