Come and See What God Will Do

But the Lord said to Moses, Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh; for with a strong hand he will send them out, and with a strong hand he will drive them out of his land. (Exodus 6:1, ESV)

When the Israelites were slaves in Egypt, God promised Moses that He would deliver and set them free. They suffered tremendously due to the harsh burdens inflicted on them by Pharaoh, king of Egypt. However, when Moses shared the word of the Lord with them, due to their broken spirit, they did not listen. After suffering through 10 horrific plagues, none of which affected Goshen, the city where the Israelites lived, Pharaoh, the Egyptian leader, finally let them go.

This story might resonate with many of you, as fear, panic, and absolute uncertainty have gripped many. Times are hard, and there is no sign of relief on the horizon. Violence erupts like a volcano, while the cost of living continues to skyrocket. Worst of all, those in need suffer because essential benefits could be ripped from them as if they do not matter at all. Where do you go when even the government seems indifferent to its citizens?

Pharaoh thought he was untouchable. He saw himself as Mr. Big Stuff, with an impenetrable army at his beck and call, and more power than he knew what to do with. He lived a lavish lifestyle but did absolutely nothing to protect those in the province when those plagues swept through Egypt. He was arrogant, full of pride, defiant, with absolutely no fear or reverence for the Lord.

However, all that power was no match for the Almighty. At the Red Sea, God showed up through a succession of undeniable miracles. In Exodus 14:6-10; 25-31, the Red Sea devoured Pharaoh and all his chariots. Not one survived. Dear One, who are you afraid of? Do you fear you will lose your Social Security benefits? Are you anxious because you are at risk of losing health insurance? Tomorrow seems scary to many in these uncertain times because the security you have now may be gone by then.

Dear One, we can run to the Rock of our salvation because vengeance is Mine, says the Lord. Let me assure you that He is greater than those who are against you. It may appear like you are going under, but God is in control, and not any force coming against you. Be comforted by these three distinct supernatural interventions God performed to deliver His people and bring them to the promised land.

  1. But the Lord said to Moses, Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh:

The situation for the Israelites had grown worse, and God brought assurance by introducing Himself as Lord, emphasizing His lordship. (Exodus 3:15; Numbers 23:19)

Likewise, Moses would see that Pharaoh's wrath had an expiration date, and the time for action was imminent. Still, the burdens Pharaoh had put on Israel would become the burden the Egyptians could not escape. The Almighty stepped in, and pride had to surrender to divine judgment.

God confronted Pharaoh, and He will confront your enemies too. The plagues were no match for the Egyptians' magicians, revealing that God alone is sovereign and has all power, dominion, and authority.  (Exodus 3:19-20; 9:16; 12:12; Romans 9:17).

2. With a strong hand of God, he will send them out.

The mighty hand of the Lord showcases His supreme power, causing the devil to shudder, causing no weapon formed against His chosen to prosper. God brought Israel out against all odds with a mighty hand. A hand of defense, strength, and power—A hand that no other could withstand. He will do the same for you.

God continued to frustrate Pharaoh until he surrendered. (Exodus 8:8; Romans 9:18)

3. With a strong hand, he will drive them out of his land:

The time came when Pharaoh could not wait for Israel to leave the land. During the incredible display of those plagues, it seemed as though Pharaoh was taunting Israel. His hardened heart refused to release them despite the horrendous pain and distress those plagues brought to his own inhabitants. (Exodus 12:31-33)

The mighty hand of God intervenes and reshapes circumstances for the ultimate advantage of His people. Pharaoh found the sight of them unbearable. He wanted Israel gone, so he insisted that they hurry and leave. They even provided them with silver and gold, clothing, and whatever they required. The Israelites stripped Egypt of its wealth. (Exodus 12:29-36; NLT; Psalms 105:37-38; Acts 7:36).

In Exodus 5:22-23, NLT, Moses asked God a profound question. Then Moses went back to the Lord and protested, “Why have you brought all this trouble on your own people, Lord? Why did you send me? 23 Ever since I came to Pharaoh as your spokesman, he has been even more brutal to your people. And you have done nothing to rescue them!”

Dear One, even when it seemed that the fire was seven times hotter, the enemy's army outnumbered them, and even Pharaoh seemed mightier than God, Moses saw the strong hand of God rescue His people from the ruthless grasp of their enemy, despite the insurmountable odds raging against them.

Pharaoh witnessed the Lord exhibit his unlimited power, sovereignty, authority, grandeur, and might through those 10 plagues and culminating in the final one, which compelled him to drive the Israelites out of the land.

And we will see the Almighty take what the devil meant for evil and turn it around for our good. The next time your struggles appear greater than God's ability to solve them, tell them, come and see what my God will do.

May the musical selection, Fear Has No Power by Phil Wickham, stir your heart to see that the power of the living God is mightier than those against you.
