She Trusted God in the Past and Trusts Him for Her Future

She's using her history with God to guide her to her future!
She's using her history with God to guide her to her future!

Often, I encourage people to record their personal history with the Lord. Dear One, we all have one, whether we acknowledge it or not. You may not even believe in God; however, He has done something remarkable for you. Your family is a blessing, and your job, which allows you to provide for them. How many have received healing? That, Dear One, was the grace and mercy of the Lord.

So, what can we say about the person who has experienced challenges, pain, and sorrow? Was there a time when you felt as though you would not make it? You saw no way out, but then, God made a way out of no way, like He did when the Israelites arrived at the Red Sea. They were trapped. With a massive sea before them and a relentless army behind them, what would happen? They had but one choice. Though fear ripped their hearts at the sight of the Red Sea and Pharaoh’s army behind them, Moses urged them to move forward. Upon their obedience, God began a succession of miracles that destroyed their enemies and delivered them. (Exodus 14:15-27, AMP).

Dear One, when they looked back, all they saw was the Egyptians dead and washed up on the seashore. Watching this tremendous power of the Lord, they revered Him and put their faith in Moses and the Lord. (Exodus 14:28-31).

Even Ruth could have easily surrendered to her circumstances after the tragic loss of her husband. She could have chosen another path and gone elsewhere. Her faithfulness to Naomi and willingness to leave her home and everything familiar to her to go to an unknown country changed the trajectory of her life. Her story serves as proof that the Lord is with us in all circumstances, even when we embark on a journey without knowing how anything will turn out. In looking back, she lost much, but by trusting God with her future, He blessed her with more than she could have imagined. She was even the great-grandmother of King David, an ancestor of Jesus through David. (Ruth 1:15-18; 4:13-17; 21-22).

My Sister, as we reflect on our lives, we owe thanks to God for everything He has brought us through. Losing my job in September 2012 due to abuse of power led to four years of unemployment and nearly three years without any income. Even though this challenging period stretched my faith, my praise remained steadfast, and the Lord made a way for my family and me. From the ashes came a multiple CBA book award-winning author.

So, Dear One, when our families thrive and when we suffer the loss of a loved one, we give Him thanks. In seasons of employment and periods of unemployment, we are grateful. And still, our souls will boast of the Lord in these uncertain times because God is our hope, and He will fill us with joy and peace. (Romans 15:13). Such a ridiculous record of His faithfulness gives us the strength to trust Him and look forward to everything He is about to do.

Your circumstances may weigh you down beyond your strength. They even seem bigger than anything you faced before, as if it were over. However, we realize this challenge was the best thing that could have happened to us. So, instead of trusting in our own strength to get us out of this, we will trust solely in the Lord again because we are confident that what God did in the past, He will do something even mightier in our future. Dear One, God is about to do something huge; otherwise, the enemy would not be trying to cause you to lose hope and give up. The Almighty will rescue us again, and as many times as He chooses to do so.

I pray the song Ancient Gates by Brooke Ligertwood stirs your heart and causes you to sing until your voice gives out!

TIME FOR REFLECTION: Let us encourage someone. What lessons from past victories with God does He want us to learn to trust Him wholeheartedly?
